East Central Florida Climate Indicators 

Climate can broadly be defined as the average weather (i.e., temperatures, precipitation, and wind) measured over a long period of time, ranging from months, seasons, to years. Persistent changes in a climate's measured mean and/or the variability of its properties is referred to as climate change, which can be attributed to changes in atmospheric composition (IPCC, 2018). A changing Climate can have a variety of impacts in weather patterns causing extreme temperatures and precipitation events. 

The East Central Florida region is no stranger to severe weather events and natural threats, like tropical storms, hurricanes, storm surges, flooding, extreme heat, and sea level rise, to name a few. Yet, in many ways, it is due to the region's unique traits, such as a subtropical climate, 119 miles of Atlantic coastlines, and rapid growth and development, among other characteristics, that also makes this area so vulnerable to local and global social and natural challenges. It is because of these challenges and opportunities for change that the adequate implementation of resilience measures and approaches are pursuit and encouraged by the R2C. Along with the ECFRPC, the Collaborative has worked to develop a comprehensive view of the region's climate indicators. With these climate indicators, the aim is to serve the region assess priorities and necessary funding to address climate-related impacts and prevent worsening scenarios, evaluate estimated future conditions, and to share and compile resources for informed planning and prevention at all community levels.

Regionwide Greenhouse Gas Inventory
