Special Projects

The Regional Planning Council is involved in a number of regional initiatives aimed at planning for the region’s rapid growth at a more regional scale.

The agency’s interdependent and interrelated responsibilities offer the potential for a more comprehensive and coordinated approach to planning for the region’s future.

With three major metropolitan areas (and a fourth, the Lakeland metropolitan area, interacting increasingly with this region), East Central Florida typifies the rapid growth and change that is gripping virtually all of Florida.

The other phenomenon becoming more apparent in east central Florida is the increasing awareness of the regional nature of growth and growth-related issues, and of the need to coordinate activities.

The Regional Planning Council has been a central player in several efforts, providing information, technical expertise and coordination.
