Green Mountain Scenic Byway
The Green Mountain Byway Scenic Highway Initiative is dedicated to promoting the beauty and character of the CR 455 and Old SR 50 corridor just west of Orlando in eastern Lake County, Florida.
Located in Lake County, in Central Florida, approximately 10 miles along County Road 455 from the northern termini at the intersection with County Road 561 south to the intersection with Old Highway 50, known locally as Montverde Junction. On July 5, 2002, Secretary Thomas F. Barry, Jr. signed the letter granting the Green Mountain Candidate Scenic Byway eligibility status by the Florida Dept. of Transportation for designation as a Florida Scenic Highway. The Corridor Advocacy Group is working on its Corridor Management Plan that will provide a framework for achieving the Corridor Vision and Goals and ultimately attain designation as a Florida Scenic Highway. Community meetings held at 7:00 PM on the 2nd Thursday of each month in Montverde - at the Kirk Park Community Center.
In 2007, the Florida Department of Transportation funded, through the ECFRPC, the creation of a corridor Master Plan for the Green Mountain Scenic Byway. Glatting Jackson, the consultant contracted through the ECFRPC, worked with the Corridor Management Committee to develop this master plan which focused on Place, Recreation, Natural Resources and Wayfinding, just to name a few.
