Brownfields

Brownfields are real property for which expansion, redevelopment, or reuse may be complicated by actual or perceived environmental contamination. A contiguous area of one or more brownfield sites is called a brownfield area. Brownfield areas are designated by a local government by resolution. Such areas may include all or portions of community redevelopment areas, enterprise zones, empowerment zones, other such designated economically deprived communities and areas.

There are a number of funding sources and options for cleaning up and redeveloping brownfields - this page contains links to the agencies that administer brownfield redevelopment. The seminar described below also will answer questions about redeveloping brownfields.
