About Us :: Strategic Regional Policy Plan (SRPP)

There are eleven Regional Planning Council's in the state of Florida and each are required to adopt a Strategic Regional Policy Plan (SRPP) that addresses five regional topics or elements including affordable housing, economic development, emergency preparedness, natural resources of regional significance, and regional transportation. The law also allows for the development of additional elements provided that topic relates to the particular needs and circumstances of the region.

The current East Central Florida Regional Planning Council Policy Plan was adopted in 1998. Four publications chronicled the development of the plan including "At This Point in Time; What the Future Holds; Water, Plants and Concrete, and Taking The Next Step." The result set forth policy intended to coordinate and inform planning and development activities at the metropolitan level. For more information see the adjacent link - Adopted SRPP 1998.


Beginning in 2006, a significant regional undertaking took place. "How Shall We Grow?" was an 18-month campaign and process that engaged nearly 20,000 residents and was designed to create a shared growth vision for Central Florida. The resulting 2050 Regional Vision promotes a future environment that emerges from four key themes (4C's) and is much different than our current consumptive and sprawling trends.

The East Central Florida Regional Planning Council is currently in the process of updating the 1998 SRPP with the specific intention of implementing the '2050 Regional Growth Vision' and the four key themes it promotes. The goal is to create a policy plan that both encourages a new direction and is outcome oriented. To usher in this new renaissance, the ECFRPC will look to rename the SRPP to 'Central Florida 2050: Regional Policies for a Sustainable Future.'
